The Columbia Gorge & all the rest!

I’m sitting poolside at our campground doing laundry ( how glamorous) while Dane swims and just thinking about our past week.

I’ve had so many moments of gratitude. Talking to God and just thanking him for all he has done. It took me awhile to get to this point. I doubted Gods presence a lot and I’m ok admitting that. I didn’t grow up going to church. I didn’t have that strong Christian foundation. I knew God existed but I didn’t know him, I did that on my own in my adult years and whoof I don’t know how anyone does life without God. He is with me on the mountain tops but more importantly in the valleys and I understand that now and am so GRATEFUL.

Ok so our trip so far. I’m so so sooooo proud of Dane he’s had to deal with life not being perfect. Our present campground ( I’ll name after we leave) is stunning with giant trees but…. there are trains that run day and night about 20 feet away from our campsite and yes they blow their horns. The sound literally makes you jump right out of your skin. We are used to quiet so this is a major for Dane. The first morning he woke up and proceeded to say how much he hated it here. Ugggh not a good way to start the week. Honestly though he voices what I feel. I think 10 trains went thru in the night so we didn’t sleep and I didn’t like it much either. There is a tremendous amount of raw honesty with autistm, he doesn’t sugar coat a thing! He just simply stated how he felt. I sometimes wish I could be more like him, just say how you ACTUALLY feel without worrying about offending someone. All that said, he got used to it and we even started making jokes about the train. He learned to go with the flow.

We hiked! That is just not really in Danes wheel house. He’s a quader. Getting out and hiking isn’t for him but he did it and we both got to see some beautiful views. The waterfalls here, ohhhhh the waterfalls. When you see them it’s almost feels like you are on sacred ground, something ancient. Each and every single one is breathtaking.

Danes favorite thing we did here was The Mt Hood train ride and if you’ve been following my page you know all about it.

As much as I loved the waterfalls I was shocked by my favorite place here. A fish hatchery!!! Who would have thought. I have never seen such a beautiful grounds in all my life.

Seeing sturgeons and rainbows was beautiful and the size of them is shocking. They have an 80 yr old sturgeon named Herman.

But the best part was the Salmon!!! I felt so lucky and I could have watched them for hours. It is the start of migrating season and I have never seen anything like it. Not many people get to witness this so I took another moment to thank God for this incredible experience. Dane had the giggles watching them jump. It is truly something to see.

If you are following along on our page then you will see the rest of this beautiful place.

The Columbia Gorge is something to see, and glad we did but we are ready to move on to our new destination.
